Woman Caught Going 115 MPH in Snow, State Police Say

The speed limit on the road was 35 mph, police said

A woman was pulled over by Illinois police while doing 115 mph in a 35 mph zone during snowy conditions over the weekend, state police said.

The woman, who police did not identify, was apparently pulled over by a District 10 trooper Sunday evening near Market Street and Wilbur Avenue in Champaign, according to state police. Authorities wrote on the ticket that there was snow and slush on the ground at the time.

“If you think we don’t patrol in town, you’re mistaken,” Illinois State Police wrote on Facebook alongside a photo of the ticket. “And if you think you won’t get in a bad crash in town because the speed limits are low and you’re a good driver, think again. Just remember there are people like this driving next to you.”

Police reported numerous cars in ditches by Monday morning, which they attributed to speed as heavy snow fell on the Chicago area and across northern Illinois.
