Ice and snow could make for difficult travel Tuesday as nearly all of the Chicago area is under a Winter Weather Advisory.
With the exception of northwest Indiana, several counties could see up to an inch of snow and ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch, according to the National Weather Service.
The Winter Weather Advisory takes effect in DeKalb and LaSalle counties beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday. In McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook, Kendall, Will and Kankakee counties, the alert begins at noon. It will remain in effect across the area through 6 p.m.
"A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving," the alert states.
The wintry mix comes just days after a snowstorm dumped several inches of snow across the area, with some spots seeing more than 10 inches.
Light snow is expected to develop during the late-morning hours Tuesday and begin mixing with freezing rain and sleet as temperatures rise.

The icy combination could last for several hours, making for difficult travel conditions before transitioning to rain across the area by the evening hours.
