One person was in custody after a heavy police presence Monday night in the north suburban village of Winnetka. Police said the incident was related to a fatal shooting in Northfield.

“There is significant police activity on Tower Road between Hibbard and Green Bay,” Winnetka police posted on Facebook. “Please avoid the area at this time. If you are in the area, please follow the officers' instructions.”

One user on Twitter questioned whether or not the situation was an "active shooter," which police were quick to dispel.

"There is not an active shooter at this time; however, there is significant police presence on Tower Road between Hibbard and Green Bay," Winnetka police said in a tweet. "Everyone is being asked to avoid this area at this time."

Social media users responded to police asking for further details, saying they were “nervous.”

Pictures shared by a Twitter user showed officers in the North Shore suburb’s streets, and squad cars parked near businesses.

No other information was immediately available.
