Wind Gusts Over 60 MPH Reported Near Chicago

Heavy winds were expected to cause a variety of hazards on Sunday as a cold front moves through the Chicago-area.

Some areas reported gusts of up to 60 MPH or more.

On noon Sunday, Gary Airport reported a wind gust of 63 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. It was one of three wind gusts that exceeded the 60 MPH threshold, according to the NWS.

Skies were expected to become mostly clear by Sunday afternoon with temperature lows in the upper single digits.

There is no respite coming from the brutal weather hammering Chicago, according to NBC 5’s Alicia Roman.

Gary Airport: 63 MPH

Antioch: 63 MPH

Wheeling-Chicago Executive Airport: 62 MPH

Sugar Grove-Aurora Airport: 60 MPH

Chicago Midway Airport: 56 MPH

Peru Airport: 60 MPH

Valparaiso Airport: 59 MPH

Morris Airport: 58 MPH

O’Hare International Airport: 56 MPH

A High Wind Warning remains in effect throughout the Chicago area until 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
