Students were met with extra security Monday morning at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in Chicago after a threat was written inside a school bathroom.
In an email to parents, Assistant Principal Mathew Swanson said a “concerned student informed school administration about a threatening message carved into a bathroom stall.”
A Facebook post from the parent of a student at the school purporting to show that the message on the stall read “you will all pay 12/5.”
Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Police Department were investigating and “take this message very seriously.”
“Additional security measures will be implemented immediately,” the email to parents read.
Chicago police confirmed it was investigating. A statement from CPS said "student safety is the district's top priority and all potential threats are taken very seriously."
"Officials launched an immediate investigation upon learning of this potential threat and the district is working with CPD and will be providing extra security and vigilance as the investigation remains ongoing," the statement read.
