‘White Nationalist' Fliers to be Torn Down by Streets and Sanitation Workers, Alderman Says

White nationalist “propaganda materials” were found posted on light poles in the 19th Ward, Ald. Matt O’Shea said.

The alderman said he became aware of the posters Monday morning. He said he has ordered the Department of Streets and Sanitation to remove the fliers. He also said he’s requested the police and Commission on Human Relations to open an investigation into the matter.

“The racist and anti-Semitic positions espoused by this organization do not reflect the values and character of our community,” O’Shea said. “We must forcefully speak out against this hatred and counter it with our own message of unity.”

He urged residents to pick up a “Hate Has No Home in the 19th Ward” sign to hang in their windows in response to the posters.

Chicago police confirmed they are looking into the matter.

“We received pictures of the stickers from citizens this morning and officers were working to locate them for additional investigation,” department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.

No other information was immediately available.
