Seneca was one of the small Illinois towns where a tornado touched down during Wednesday night’s severe storms, about 32 miles north of where another twister uprooted homes and flipped vehicles in the city of Pontiac.
The residents of Seneca woke up to downed power lines and snapped trees Thursday morning as ComEd crews closed roadways to begin repairs.
There were no reports of injuries, according to Seneca’s Deputy Fire Chief Kett Johnson, but two homes were damaged.
One of the homes had its roof ripped right off of it, Johnson said, but luckily no one was inside at the time. He thanks the area’s early warning for the safety of residents.
“Once we heard that the touchdown was close we notified dispatch [to set off the tornado sirens],” Johnson said.
If the path of the tornado would have traveled just a half of a mile south, it would have hit a campground resort housing 1,500 units of people.
“We’re blessed nobody was hurt,” Johnson said. “Not one injury, not one scrape. Nothing.”
