‘We Need More Police': Rally Held After Uptown Starbucks Shooting

Chicago police hosted an Operation Wake Up rally Tuesday night after the fatal shooting at an Uptown Starbucks last week.

“I’m really happy it seems like people are trying to do something positive,” said Ben Reifenberg, an Uptown resident.

Ald. James Cappelman has been openly critical of Starbucks for what happened at the corner of the 4700 block of North Broadway Street last Thursday when a drug deal gone wrong resulted not only in the fatal shooting of a man in his 20s but a 12-year old boy and another man being injured.

"We talked it out [and] they’ve stepped up their security," Cappelman said of Starbucks. "We’re all in this together that if we want to address crime we all need to work together in many different ways."

We want to make sure people are safe going there so they don’t have any fear,” said Pastor Abraham Adesayo.

But at least one resident claims for him there’s only one solution to this kind of crime.

“We need more police,” Jose Torres said.
