Chicago police are warning downtown shoppers after a string of violent store thefts along the Magnificent Mile.
The robbers typically strike during the afternoon, according to police, hitting four stores so far. Incidents were reported on Nov. 1 in the 900 block of North State, Nov. 5 in the 800 block of North Michigan, Nov. 9 in the 1200 block of North Larrabee and Nov. 11 in the 700 block of North Michigan.
In at least one of the robberies, one of the thieves had a gun.
Michigan Avenue and State Street are prime shopping destinations for the holiday season. Police say there may be several criminals carrying out the crimes. When confronted, the suspects commonly fight back using force, according to police.
North Side business owners are being asked to make sure employees are aware and to not fight back against thieves if approached in a similar situation.
