Sons of Slain Cab Driver Still Waiting For Answers Despite Video of Attack

While neighbors celebrate Christmas on this Northwest Side block their is no joy in this second floor apartment for brothers Omar and Raymond Tungekar.

"It’s hard that I haven’t seen my father alive for a year now and I’m never going to see him again," Omar said.

Omar and Raymond's father lived until Sept. 2 when the Medical Examiner says blunt force trauma to the head killed him.

A new arrest warrant was issued for the Uber driver seen in a video giving a kick to the head of 64-year-old taxi driver Anis Tungekar seconds after a traffic altercation.

The Uber driver was arrested that Labor Day weekend but then was released and recently fled to China.

The Cook County States Attorney had ordered police to find even more evidence—beyond the multiple witnesses you see in the video coming to the aid of Tungekar—before any charges could be approved.

With the fugitive in China the whole case is in jeopardy.

"This process should not have taken this long," Chicago police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said. "We will begin the extradition procedures but that is very difficult given where he is."

The Uber driver's account with the rideshare company has since been suspended and the company is cooperating with police, an Uber spokeswoman said.

"This is a horrible tragedy and our thoughts are with Mr. Tungekar's family and loved ones," the Uber spokeswoman said in a statement.
