‘Mommy She Made Us Fight': Video Shows Adult Egging On Students Fist-Fighting At School

A video posted to Facebook shows two Chicago Public School students fighting while an adult encourages them to hurt one another.

The fight took place at an after school program at Stagg Elementary School in the Englewood neighborhood. The two 11-year-old boys, Michael Bowman and Gerald Blackshire, and their mothers say a mentor at the school egged them on while one of their friends recorded the altercation.

“When I first asked what happened he started cry and said ‘mommy she made us fight,’” Tamia Blackshire, Gerald’s mother, said. She also provided NBC 5 with the fight footage.

Chicago Public Schools said in a statement the adult is not their employee and is no longer at the school. The Union League Boys and Girls Club, which runs the after-school program through CPS, said it was working on a statement.

Tamia said she thinks those left in charge of children in the afterschool program should have more experience and training in dealing with children.

Michael’s mother, Dawn, says her son now suffers from blurred vision and a black eye.

But Wednesday night the children were friends again, playing basketball and paling around.

Police were investigating Wednesday.
