A video camera will be allowed in the upcoming trial of Waukegan resident Sarah Gumm, who is charged with murdering a 3-month-old child she was babysitting in July 2012.
In addition to granting the media request, Judge Victoria Rossetti on Tuesday rescheduled Gumm’s trial from Aug. 25 to Sept. 29, following a defense request for more time to investigate mitigation in the case, the Lake County News-Sun is reporting.
Rossetti also set a Sept. 3 pretrial date for Gumm.
Gumm has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and aggravated battery for allegedly killing 3-month-old Rylan Aislee Koopmeiners. She is being held in Lake County Jail on $3 million bond.
Gumm is accused by police and prosecutors of violently slamming the baby down on a table.
According to officials, she had been caring for the Kenosha, Wis. child for six weeks in her Waukegan home before the baby died of blunt force trauma on July 27, 2012.
Waukegan police said Gumm admitted she was responsible for the infant’s injuries.

According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the baby died of a skull fracture and cranial hemorrhaging due to blunt force head trauma.
Emergency personnel responded to Gumm’s Waukegan home on the day of Koopmeiners’ death and found the baby unresponsive. The infant was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where she was pronounced dead.
