All Clear at Valparaiso University After Alert

Web alert stated the broad, unspecified threat was made through graffiti message

Valparaiso University issued an all-clear Friday after posting a campus alert on its website about an alleged threat to campus made in the form of a graffiti message.

A school spokeswoman said a "thorough human and canine search of campus" was conducted by university police, local authorities and the FBI, and nothing suspicious was found.

Earlier in the day, Valparaiso University posted this message to its website: "An unspecific threat to campus was made through a graffiti message alluding to dangerous and criminal activity alleged to be carried out during the chapel break period on Friday."

The advisory called the threat "broad" with no details about the type or location. It's not known what the graffiti message said.

The university said it added additional, visible security for and advised students and staff to be on alert and asked them to comply with security directions if necessary.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to campus police by calling 911 or 219-464-5430.
