Utility Pole Smashes Into Car Moments After Driver's Son Exits

A suburban dad received the scare of a lifetime last weekend when a power pole crashed into his parked vehicle.

Aaron Albrecht of Kildeer had dropped off his ten-year-old son for football practice at Emmerich Field in Buffalo Grove on Saturday morning when he said a utility pole with 12,000 volts of power flowing through it fell on top of his vehicle.

“I was in the car when it happened,” Albrecht said.

Albrecht was sitting on the driver’s side when the pole landed where his son had been sitting moments earlier.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

“We avoided a major tragedy,” Albrecht said. “I’m extraordinarily grateful.”

A spokesperson for ComEd said the utility responded immediately and is investigating the cause of the pole collapse.

“The safety of our customers and our people is our number one priority,” the spokesperson said.
