Why Pre-Gaming Can Cost You

Unofficial St. Patrick’s Day is supposedly officially over on the University of Illinois campus, but it looks like hundreds of revelers haven't ended the annual celebration just yet.

As of 3 a.m. Saturday, police issued 328 notices, many of them to students, to appear in court, according to the News-Gazette.

The citations, up from last year's 269 notices, mostly were for municipal violations for underage drinking, open alcohol, public possession of alcohol, selling alcohol to minors, throwing objects from balconies, fighting and resisting a peace officer.

The News-Gazette reports it’s not clear if a 21-year-old U of I student had been participating in the festivities when she crossed a busy street and was hit by two vehicles. She’s in serious condition at an Urbana hospital.
