Mother Charged After Boy Found Alone on Street

Woman faces misdemeanor count of endangering the life/health of a child

The mother of a boy found wandering the streets of West Englewood Monday night faces criminal charges.

Carla S. Conrad, 27, of the 7100 block of South Wood Street was charged with one misdemeanor count of Endangering the Life/Health of a Child.

A neighbor spotted the boy, suspected to be 3 or 4 years old, running down the street unsupervised shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Hermitage, according to police.

The boy was picked up and taken to a police station, but wasn't able to tell officers his real name or where he lived.

Conrad reportedly contacted police after friends of hers saw news coverage. She's scheduled to appear in court next month.
