Chicago police investigators have found inconsistencies in the initial story of a man who was shot and killed after rushing to help his teenage niece who was being sexually assaulted in a Burnside home, a police spokesman said.
Around 9 p.m. Thursday, a man entered the home in the 500 block of East 89th Place through a window and sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl her in bedroom, police said.
The girl's uncle, a 66-year-old man, rushed to her aid after hearing her screams and was shot by the attacker in the head and back, according to police.
The man was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. The teen was taken to Trinity Hospital where her condition had stabilized, authorities said.
Police said offender was invited to the house by the teenage victim, and that interrogations were continuing as of Friday afternoon. The incident appeared to be isolated in nature, CPD Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
