Don’t be surprised if you get mail Sunday.

The holiday season’s demand for delivery has prompted the U.S. Postal service to deliver throughout Chicago the two Sundays before Christmas.

The post-office said package growth this season has exceeded “even the most optimistic projections” and expects 420 million packages to be delivered over the holiday season.

“We’re excited about the explosion in package growth,” said Chicago District Manager Karen Schenck, “and we want to make sure that we get every gift to its intended recipient in time for the holiday.”

The Chicago Post Office will also open deliver stations Sundays for customers to pick up packages if they received a “notice slip” and will also begin early-morning delivery throughout the week.

The deadline for sending First-Class Mail in time for the holidays is Dec. 20, Priority Mail is Dec. 21, and Priority Mail Express is Dec. 23.
