UIC Student Knocked Out During Robbery Near Campus

The student surrendered his wallet, police said, but was struck on the head

University of Illinois Police released a campus alert Wednesday after a student was struck on the head and left unconscious during a robbery near campus.

The attack happened between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of South Green Street, campus police said in the alert.

The UIC student told police an offender approached him from behind, placed an unknown object at the back of his head and demanded money.

The student surrendered his wallet, police said, but was struck on the head and left unconscious. He later was treated at Rush Medical Center for a head injury.

UIC Police said in the alert they recommend students comply with an armed offender wanting property or valuables. Anyone with information is asked to call UIC Police at 312-996-2830.

In a separate incident, a UIC student was attacked in February near campus. Police said she was grabbed at knifepoint and sexually assaulted.
