U of Illinois' Dial-A-Carol Draws 5,700 Calls

Students at the Champaign campus take calls and sing carol requests

The University of Illinois says its Dial-a-Carol program took more than 5,700 calls this year.

Students at the Champaign campus take calls and sing carol requests. This year program organizers say students received calls from 19 countries and across the United States.

One of the most popular songs? "Jingle Bells" with 772 requests. Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" was requested 331 times.

Dial-a-Carol doesn't raise money — and that's part of its charm. It coincides with final exams, giving students needed stress relief between tests. Wednesday was the last day to call.

Last year, the student volunteers took more than 4,000 calls.
