Two Officers, Firefighter Injured in South Side Blaze

Two Chicago police officers and a firefighter were injured in a blaze on Chicago’s South Side early Thursday morning.

The fire was reported just before 4 a.m. in the 12400 block of South State Street in the city's West Pullman neighborhood.

Officials said two police officers, a 30-year-old and a 31-year-old man, were taken to Metro South Hospital for smoke inhalation while a firefighter was reported have had minor injuries at the scene. The firefighter refused treatment, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The police officers arrived at the scene before fire crews and ran into the burning home to check if anyone was inside.

The blaze took more than hour to put out.

Neighbors said a man and his children live in the home, but it was not clear if anyone was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Thursday morning.
