Two Dead in Wrong-Way Crash on I-55 Near Bolingbrook

All northbound lanes and the southbound left lane were shut down until about 6:30 a.m.

Two people died in a fatal crash on Interstate 55 near Bolingbrook early Saturday morning.

Ariel Dorado, 25, was driving south in the northbound lane of the expressway when he struck a car driven by 20-year-old Daniel Zamora, according to Illinois State Police. The accident happened just before 3 a.m.

Zamora, who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, was ejected from the vehicle.

Both drivers were from Plainfield, police said.

Mike Mora, a friend of Zamora's, witnessed the aftermath of the accident on the interstate as he drove by.

"I pulled over right away, and I left my date in my car. I ran to go see ... I kept telling the police that's my friend in the car. I just want to know if he's OK," Mora said.

Mora said Zamora was set to celebrate his 21st birthday in just two weeks.

All northbound lanes and the southbound left lane were temporarily shut down due to the crash.
