Travelers Flock to Chicago Airports for Holiday Weekend

O'Hare and Midway Airports could break a new travel record, according to the city

Hundreds of thousands of travelers were expected to go through Chicago's airports Friday for what is expected to be the busiest air travel day of the holiday season.

The Chicago Department of Aviation said it's prepared to serve more than 5.2 million passengers for Christmas and New Year’s traveling arrangements. That could lead O’Hare and Midway airports to break a new travel record, according to city officials.

The busiest day of the season for airports, the city says, will be Friday with 225,000 passengers at O’Hare and 70,000 at Midway.

Thursday was expected to be the busiest day for road travel, with drive times predicted at triple their average during the afternoon rush hour.
