Train Extension Planned at O'Hare Airport

Train to be extended to the airport's new rental hub

Forget boarding a bus to find your rental car at O'Hare International Airport.

The airport plans to extend its people mover train all the way to the rental car lot as part of a $340 million project expected to be completed in 2016.

Project plans include upgrading O'Hare's Airport Transit System and build a new car rental hub that will house the airport's rental companies, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino told aldermen at a budget hearing the trains will stretch to Zemke Boulevard and Mannheim Road.

The extension could make it easier to connect with Metra too. The rental hub will be located near the North Central Service line between Union Station and Antioch.

The City Council in 2010 enacted an $8 per-day rental car fee to help pay for the new facility, the Tribune reports.
