Street parking has always been hard to come by in Lincoln Park, but now it can be dangerous as well.
In at least three instances, thieves have made off with all four tires and wheels, leaving vehicles up on blocks, police said.
At least two of the thefts have occurred here on the 1100 block of West Montana.
“Last week we were walking down the street and we saw the aftermath of the four tires removed and the car up on blocks,” Catherine Cirulli said. “It makes you feel like you can't park your car on the street. You have to have a garage or it's not safe.
Last week, owners of a black SUV had their wheels stolen and received a city ticket as well.
Alderman Michele Smith is now warning residents about the overnight thefts. So far, thieves appear to be targeting dark vehicles or those with large rims and tires.
