The 2019 BMW Championship, which will include the top 70 players in the PGA Tour FedExCup standings—including five-time champion and 81-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods, is set to be held in suburban Chicago mid-August.
The championship is scheduled to take place Aug. 13-18 at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois, as the top 70, including the winners of all four of this year’s major championships (Woods (The Masters), Koepka (PGA Championship), Gary Woodland (U.S. Open) and Shane Lowry (The Open Championship)) compete to earn one of 30 spots in the season-ending Tour Championship and the chance to be crowned FedExCup champion, according to a statement released.
The penultimate event of the PGA TOUR FedExCup Playoffs will be headlined by “world No. 1 Brooks Koepka, whose season includes three wins overall, including the 2019 PGA Championship,” the statement says, along with “five-time champion and 81-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods, who has won major championships at Medinah Country Club twice (1999 PGA Championship, 2006 PGA Championship).”
“Every year the FedExCup Playoffs produce a world-class field for the BMW Championship, and this year is no exception,” said Vince Pellegrino, Western Golf Association Senior Vice President of Tournaments. “We are thrilled that the BMW Championship will showcase a group of incredible young talent as well as a group of well-established major champions who have been thrilling fans for years.”
Past BMW Championship winners such as Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, and defending champion Keegan Bradley are also vying to claim the J.K. Wadley Trophy. Other major championship winners such as Bubba Watson, Patrick Reed and Francesco Molinari are also scheduled to compete at Medinah.
Proceeds from the event will help fund Evans Scholarships for caddies, which according to their official site, is a full tuition and housing college scholarship for golf caddies that is renewable for up to four years. Since 2007, the BMW Championship has raised more than $30 million for college scholarships for caddies, the statement said.
