Rain Storms Through Chicago

The block of thunderstorms that hit the Chicago area Friday morning has come and gone

The worst is over, Chicago.

Aside from a few lingering showers, the block of thunderstorms that hit the Chicago area Friday morning has come and gone.

But the rain came fast and furiously.

Live Doppler 5 showed Friday a line of storms developing near DeKalb, Aurora and Elgin, moving northeast. Pea-sized hail was reported in Batavia along with a quarter inch of rain.

Heavy showers and storms poured around Aurora and Elmhurst around 7 a.m., and arriving flights to O'Hare Airport were 50 minutes behind schedule because of the storms.

Temperatures remain in the 40s with the some heavy downpours and lightning at times in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, a chance of thunderstorms continues between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for the area.

Rainfall amounts could range between a tenth and quarter of an inch with higher amounts possible when thunderstorms develop.
