Three Found Dead in Avondale Building, Possibly From Cold

Emergency officials responded to the 3300 block of North Harding about 11:15 a.m. and found the three—males of unknown age—dead in a vacant building

Three people were found dead in a vacant Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood building Monday morning, and their deaths may be related to the cold.

Emergency officials responded to the 3300 block of North Harding about 11:15 a.m. and found the three—males of unknown age—dead in a vacant building, police said.

They may have been homeless, and their deaths may be weather-related, officials said.

One neighbor said her family began calling 311 and 911 in the summer to report visitors to the home. The visitors became less frequent since then and nothing had been found in the home until the discovery today.

Esmerelda Sotelo told NBC Chicago the home had been vacant for months.

“There were always people coming out and on porch [but] it stopped,” Sotelo said. “We assumed house was abandoned.”

The bodies showed no signs of trauma, police said.

“It’s pretty scary,” Sotelo said. “They should have gone to a shelter.”
