Chicago police are investigating a threat made against the Civilian Office of Police Accountability in the city Friday.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said around 11:30 a.m. the department was responding to the 1600 block of West Chicago Avenue after an emailed workplace threat.

“Expect a visible police presence in the area as officers/agents investigate,” Guglielmi tweeted.

About an hour later, COPA said it was informed by local law enforcement of the potential threat, and takes “all matters regarding the safety of our staff serious.”

“COPA is appreciative of the efforts of the Chicago Police Department regarding this matter and remains committed to its staff and the residents of the city of Chicago,” the office said in a statement.
