Teen's Shooting Death Ruled Accidental

Girl shot in chest by boyfriend, police

Police say a Chicago Heights woman who was fatally shot Friday was accidentally shot by her boyfriend, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Hayley Pelock, 19, was inside 20-year-old Ryan Fantasia when the shooting happened. Fantasia has been charged with with felony obstruction of justice because he didn't immediately tell authorities what happened, according to the Tribune.

Pelock was shot in a second floor bedroom of the house and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police told the Sun-Times Media Wire that Pelock was on a break from college when she was killed.

Fantasia's sister, Crystal, told the Tribune that the two had been happily dating for a couple of years.

According to Pelock’s Facebook page, she worked as a cashier at Jewel Oscoe, and graduated from Marian Catholic High School in 2010.

The school’s principal said Pelock was a “quiet and studious” honor student, and one of her teachers remembered her as a kind-hearted, loyal woman who would give anyone a chance.

"I think Hayley is the person who you would want at your side, the person who would stand with you no matter what," her teacher said.
