Teenage Girl Fatally Stabbed on Chicago's South Side

The 16-year-old girl was stabbed in the chest during a large fight, according to police.

A teenage girl is dead after being stabbed on Chicago's South Side Saturday evening, according to police. 

The 15-year-old girl was in the 6500 block of S. King Dr. in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood at 7:30 p.m. when a large fight broke out, police said. 

She was stabbed in the upper chest and taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities confirmed. 

She was later identified as Dekayla Dansberry, a freshman at Johnson College Prep in Englewood. Her family said she studied hard and got good grades, and she was a cheerleader and member of the track team. 

Authorities did not release any further information on what led up to the fight or stabbing. Two people were taken into custody for questioning, but were released, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.
