Teen Hunting Birds Prompts School Lockdown

Schools locked down after bus driver spots man with gun

Several schools were placed on lockdown Wednesday in suburban Gages Lake after a person was spotted in a wooded area with a rifle.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to Laremont School at 2:45 p.m. after a school bus driver loading students noticed the 17-year-old male nearby.

The driver immediately left the parking lot and the school, along with other surrounding schools, was placed on lockdown.

Authorities found the man in question who stated he was shooting birds in the woods with his bb gun.

The school lockdowns lasted around 15 minutes.

Authorities haven't determined whether criminal charges will be filed.
