Teen Charged with Stealing Money Intended for Class Trip

A 19-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly scammed classmates out of money they gave him for a senior class trip, police said.

Kjuan Green of the 5300 block of West Monroe Street was charged with seven counts of misdemeanor theft, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer O'Brien.

Green reportedly collected $175 per person for a trip to a resort in Utica, Ill. The funds were to include resort expenses and bus transportation, O'Brien said.

The funds were collected from 20 students, marking the total amount collected at $3,750, according to the Chicago Tribune.

On the day of the trip, scheduled to begin May 18, the supposed bus never arrived and students were left stranded, O'Brien said.

Police said Green never made the arrangements and instead took the money.

It was not clear if the trip was associated with the students' high school or if it was done independently.

The school could not be reached for comment Sunday.
