Teen Charged for Carjacking Off-Duty Police Sergeant

A 19-year-old man who was arrested for burglary, is also accused of carjacking an off-duty Chicago police sergeant last week.

Christopher Jones was charged Saturday with vehicular hijacking, theft, burglary, vehicular invasion and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

Police said an offender took the sergeant’s 2006 silver Inifiniti QX56 last week in the 6900 block of East End Avenue, according to Chicago police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.

The sergeant suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, Sullivan said.

Chicago Police News Affairs said Jones was originally taken into custody Friday for an unrelated burglary, which occurred in the 6100 block of South Kimbark Avenue on Aug. 25, but an investigation revealed he was involved in the vehicular hijacking.
