Two teen boys are among several people hospitalized after a car attempted to drive around train gates and was struck by a Chicago Transit Authority Pink Line train Thursday night in Cicero.
The CTA tweeted that Pink Line service was temporarily suspended around 7:40 p.m. "due to a collision with a vehicle."
At a press conference, police said a 21-year-old woman was driving northbound on 47th Avenue when she attempted to go around the train gates. Her car was immediately hit by a train, authorities said.
The woman had a 15-year-old boy in the front passenger seat, who was ejected from the vehicle upon impact, according to officials. The boy remains in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
Another 17-year-old boy, who was also riding in the passenger seat, was in serious condition at Loyola University Medical Center, authorities said.
The driver suffered minor injuries, police said, and three other passengers onboard the train and the conductor were reportedly injured as well.
“When gates are down they are down for a reason," Cicero Police Superintendent Jerry Chlada Jr. said. "There’s trains coming in multiple directions going fast. When they’re down, wait for them to go back up.”

Pink Line service was suspended for hours but had resumed service by Friday morning.
