Teacher Gets 6 Years For Sex With Student

The teacher confessed that he took the student to a Naperville motel at least twice

A judge in suburban Chicago has handed down a six-year prison sentence for a former Aurora physics teacher who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting an Aurora high school student.

Robert Smith was working at Metea Valley High School in Aurora when he was charged with sexual assault. He confessed to police that he took the student to a Naperville motel at least twice.

Smith had been free on bail since shortly after his arrest in October 2010. DuPage County prosecutors on Tuesday said Smith will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence.

School officials say the 28-year-old teacher was immediately relieved of his duties when School District 204 officials learned of the allegations.
