Teacher, 26, Accused of Inappropriate Touching With CPS Student

A teacher at a Chicago school was arrested for allegedly having inappropriate contact with a student, police said.

At about 7 p.m. Wednesday, police say someone called 911 to report unusual activity in parked vehicle. Officers then discovered the teacher and student “touching each other inappropriately," police said. Chicago police said the inappropriate contact happened in the 4400 block of West Palmer Avenue.

Sources tell NBC 5 the 26-year-old teacher worked at Speer Academy. The West Side Chicago Public Schools charter school is run by the Noble Network of charter schools. Those same sources say the 17-year-old male student attends the same school.

“I’m not really surprised about it because I have seen it a lot of times on the news," Speer Academy freshman Jazmine Ortiz said. "Doesn’t really surprise me a lot."

Noble said it has been working with police.

In statement the superintendent said “nothing is more important to us than keeping our students safe. The employee in question was immediately removed from her duties and has since been terminated. We are now focused on providing support to any affected students.”

Police continue to investigate.
