The suspect, Anatoliy Ermak, shot himself after police officers confronted him Friday night

The suspect in a double homicide in Buffalo Grove was hospitalized Friday evening for a self-inflicted gunshot wound after being confronted by police officers in Minnesota, officials said Saturday.

Authorities said at approximately 8 p.m. Friday night in Edina, Minnesota, officers responded to an apartment complex where residents believe they saw the vehicle that the suspect, Anatoliy Ermak, was driving.

The suspect shot himself after officers attempted to talk to him, police said. He was transported to a hospital where he remained in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.

Police in suburban Buffalo Grove issued an arrest warrant Wednesday for Ermak in the fatal shooting of a couple in a parking garage.

The warrant for two counts of first-degree murder names Anatoliy Ermak, 64, who is wanted in connection with the deadly shooting of a couple in a parking garage at 150 Lake Boulevard Sunday, police said.

According to authorities, 55-year-old Nataliya Ermak and her husband 69-year-old Roman Frid were fatally shot in a parking garage in the northern Chicago suburb Sunday evening. The suspect in their deaths is the ex-husband of Nataliya Ermak, authorities said.

Investigators previously said they believed the shooting was targeted, and there was not an active threat to the community.
