Police are holding a man suspected of running down an 11-year-old girl in a hit and run accident in the South Shore neighborhood Tuesday.
The girl, Itali Hinton, was struck by a van on the 3900 block of South Lake Park Avenue around 6 p.m. Tuesday. She was dragged by the car briefly, police said.
The driver reportedly got out of the van momentarily, but got back in a sped away as an angry mob approached, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Hinton was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago where she was pronounced dead.
