Surveillance Photos Released of Blue Line Attacker

Chicago police have released surveillance photos of a man who followed and attacked a woman riding the Blue Line midnight Tuesday.

Police say the man followed the 19-year-old passenger up the stairs of the UIC-Halsted station and tried to sexually assault her in the 900 block of Van Buren Street.

The woman was able to fight off her attacker and call police.

The CTA stop is popular with UIC students, but many are wary of crime in the area.

"Normally if I am going to travel somewhere, like to the Loop downtown, I normally travel with a friend," UIC student Metzli Mijes said.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s, around 5-feet, 6 inches tall and 160 pounds. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a red and white logo and was carrying a dark backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Area Central Bureau of Detectives at (312) 747-8380.
