A woman is speaking out about her lawsuit against an Oak Forest health center after she says her son was waiting for a doctor when a table fell on has hand and severed his finger.
Cherise Davis says she and her son Daniel Jones were waiting for a doctor to conduct an examination at the Oak Forest facility in April of this year when he was injured, according to a suit filed Tuesday in Cook County Circuit Court. The suit names the Oak Forest Health Center of Cook County. The boy's right hand middle finger was severed just above the top knuckle. His cast comes off in 10 days, and his finger will look normal.
"The doctor has already told me it's not going to be the same," Davis told NBC 5.
Daniel's father, Less Jones, says the bedside serving table was against the wall next to his seated son. He describes it as an old heavy wooden table that collapsed and pinned Daniel's hand to the ground.
"I sat him in the chair and I looked out the door to see where the doctor went off to and next thing I know, I heard the table fall over and him on the floor," Jones said. "I grabbed him hollering and grabbed his finger and put it in my hand."
Davis was also at the doctor's office that day being seen in another office.
"I could hear my husband hollering and screaming, 'Somebody help me, somebody help me,'" Davis said.
Daniel was rushed in an ambulance to McNeil Hospital, where doctors worked to save his finger.
The suit claims the Center, located at 15900 S. Cicero Ave., did not make timely and necessary inspections and repairs and did not warn visitors of the “hazardous and unsafe” condition of the table. As a result of the alleged incident, the boy was “caused to suffer tremendous pain” and endured a severed finger, the suit says.

The two-count suit alleges negligence and the Family Expense Act and seeks at least $50,000 in damages and medical expenses. "I don't want anyone else to go through that. The table shouldn't have been in there in the first place," Davis said.
The Oak Forest Health Center said it does not comment on pending litigation.
