Death of Infant Under Investigation

The 8-month-old was found unresponsive Monday night

Police are investigating the death of an 8-month-old baby who allegedly was suffocated by his mother.

The mother and baby, identified as Colin Thies-Keogh, were found Monday night at their Lakeview home in the 3900 block of North Ashland.

According to reports, the woman called her husband saying she did something to the baby, and firefighters forced their way into the home.

The baby was unresponsive and was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m.  The woman remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating an allegation of death by abuse against the mother, said spokesman Kendall Marlowe. The agency has had no prior contact with the family and there are no other children in the home, he said.

A Tuesday autopsy was inconclusive.
