Suburban Man Finds Old Lotto Ticket Worth $100K

A west suburban Oak Park man won $100,000 when he checked a lottery ticket from nearly a year ago and found it to be a winner.

Jim McKinney was going through old papers when he found an envelope containing Powerball tickets, according to a statement from the Illinois Lottery. He checked the tickets with an Illinois Lottery self-service ticket scanner at a store and discovered that one of the tickets partially matched the numbers from a drawing on Jan. 13, 2016.

The winning numbers in that drawing were 04 – 08 – 19 – 27 – 34 with a Powerball number of 10, according to lottery officials. McKinney’s ticket matched four numbers and the Powerball.

“I feel very lucky that I found my ticket before it expired,” said McKinney, who used family birth dates as his numbers when he bought the ticket. He plans to use his winnings to donate to his church, pay bills and invest.
