Suburban Man Barricades Himself, Then Falls Asleep Inside Home

A man barricaded himself inside his northwest suburban home Sunday afternoon for nearly three hours after an argument with his mother, but the situation ended peacefully when he fell asleep.

Just after 3 p.m., Palatine officers responded to a home in the 1100 block of East Randville Drive after the 35-year-old man argued with his mother and locked himself inside the home, police said.

At some point the man made suicidal statements to his mother while locked inside, police said.

Police decided to enter the home through an open window at 5:45 p.m. after the man stopped responding, and found the man sleeping.

He was taken to Northwest Community Hospital for evaluation, police said, and no charges will be filed.
