A south suburban man confessed to robbing a bank last week in Bridgeview after his family recognized him in newspaper photographs.
Anselmo Tapia, 45, was charged with aggravated robbery, Bridgeview Police Chief Walter Klimek said.
Family members saw surveillance photos from the robbery that happened about noon on Nov. 24 at a U.S. Bank branch in Bridgeview, and recognized the suspect as their father, Klimek said.
Family members told Tapia he needed to turn himself in, Klimek said. He turned himself in to Burbank police Friday, and authorities notified Bridgeview police.
Tapia said he robbed the bank because he owed someone money, Klimek said.
Tapia, of Oak Lawn, was ordered held at the Cook County Jail on a $100,000 bond. He is next scheduled to appear in court Dec. 23.
