UPDATE: Parents Concerned After Boy Brings Gun to Class

Police were called to a northwest suburban school Thursday morning after an office secretary reported a loaded handgun was confiscated from a student.

Police had set up a perimeter around Gifford Elementary School at 240 S. Clifton Ave. in Elgin and were searching the building as of 10:30 a.m. with a K-9 unit to check for additional weapons.

As of about 10 a.m., the student was in class and did not know the office had the gun, according to reports.

Police said they do not believe there was a threat to any students.
