Scattered storms in the Chicago area Tuesday could approach severe limits, bringing threats of damaging winds, hail, and possibly an isolated tornado as already-drenched areas brace for flooding.
Despite a partly sunny, warm and humid morning, scattered showers and possibly strong storms are expected to develop later in the afternoon and evening hours, particularly north of Interstate 88, according to NBC 5 Storm Team meteorologists.
Heavy rain, wind gusts of up to 60 mph, and quarter-inch hail will be possible. The threat for a tornado is low, but not absent.

Temperature highs will reach in to the low and mid 80s before a cold front moves in Wednesday, sending highs back down into the 60s and 70s.
Overnight rain will gradually weaken across the northern portion of the state by Wednesday morning, but another round returns later in the afternoon and evening with the threat for some embedded storms.
Showers linger into early Thursday before ending, leaving behind a partly cloudy and cooler day with highs in the mid 60s. Despite more sunshine, temps will likely be a bit cooler Friday with low 60s expected.
