Stolen Car Pulled From Fox River

Fisherman spots stolen car floating in river

The Dive Team from the South Elgin and Elgin fire departments went into the Fox River off State Street shortly before noon Saturday after a fisherman reported a car had gone into the river.

The fisherman had not seen the car enter the river, but noticed it floating in the water, police said.

The site was behind the Secretary of State’s office building, police said.

The team quickly verified that no one was in the car, a silver Honda bearing Nevada license plates that had been reported stolen in Chicago, police said.
