Cops Chase Stolen Ambulance from NW Indiana to Chicago

Police chased a man driving a stolen ambulance from Northwest Indiana to Chicago Tuesday.

A Lake County Sheriff’s officer responded to the area of West Ridge Road and Cline Avenue in Highland, Ind. after reports of a stolen ambulance.

The officer followed the ambulance, which was being tracked with a GPS, onto northbound Cline Avenue, where it exited at Chicago Avenue and traveled into East Chicago, Ind., according to a release from the Lake County Sheriff’s office. The officer pursued the vehicle as it turned onto Indianapolis Boulevard, north of Chicago Avenue, and into Illinois where Chicago police officers joined in the chase.

The driver of the ambulance, registered to Prompt Ambulance of Highland, turned into a grassy field near 9015 Mackinaw Street in Chicago, where the vehicle came to a stop.

Chicago police officers took the driver, identified as 34-year-old Edwin Herrera, into custody.

Herrera was charged with one count of felony possession of a stolen vehicle and two moving violations for disobeying a red light and driving without a license, according to Chicago Police News Affairs

Charges are pending in Lake County, Indiana for auto theft and fleeing, officials said.
