Viewers Tell Us #WhyImThankful

Viewers share what they're thankful for this year's Thanksgiving

As people start cooking Thanksgiving dinner and pondering last-minute shopping, we're reminded that this is also a time for giving thanks. NBC Chicago asked viewers to share #WhyImThankful, and the results were heartwarming.

Some viewers expressed gratitude for the little things in life, but many gave thanks for their friends and family. One especially touching story came from Facebook user Dave Nytko.

"I'm thankful for after 30 plus years, reconnecting with and marrying my childhood crush this year," Nytko said. "I am thankful for her and my new wonderful family being in my life."

Google Plus user Daniel Nava jokingly said radiation makes him glow before getting to the real reason for his good vibes: family, friends and delicious food.

Other people hailed the good health of their children or other family members. One mother's son is now seizure-free, and another woman's father successfully made it through a major surgery. Facebook user Sarah Ridder and her brother received double lung transplants back in 2006, and she said they're still doing great.

Even for families without healthy relatives, the holiday is still a time for seeing the positive. Michele McGuire said she's spending her last Thanksgiving with her grandfather, who is battling lymphoma and leukemia.

"He'll eventually lose the battle, but not this Thanksgiving," she said. "He's fighting to see us all one more time."
